New research has shown that coffee helps you recover from exercise faster! Just by drinking a few cups of coffee with some carbohydrates, which is usually eaten by athletes just following their workouts, will boosts muscle recovery up to a whopping 60 percent and apparently solves a problem that has eluted sports physiologists until now. This study was published in the Journal of Applied Physiology and states has found a solution designed to help athletes recover faster, coffee and carbs!

If an athlete has more fuel in the tank, they will go further. What they have done is give them 50-60 percent more fuel. The athletes we asked to ingest caffeine in the form of coffee, which has no real nutritional benefit, but the results were astounding.

In this case study the athletes were told to cycle to exhaustion before eating a carbohydrate sports drink, bar or gel, along with a high caffeine dose. The caffeine dosage was the equivalent of five to six cups of strong brewed coffee immediately after the exercise routine. They found that the amount of carbohydrates that could be stored by the muscles when ingested combined with the higher caffeine dosage, was about 60 percent higher than with just carbohydrates alone. If you have 60 percent more fuel there for your next day’s weight lifting routine, Bodybuilding, running, cycling or hockey game, there is no question at all, that you would be able to go further or faster than usual.

Natural melatonin levels do slowly drop with a persons age and can affect your sleep patterns creating insomnia. Some older adults will make very small amounts of melatonin or in some cases none at all. For most people having occasional bouts of insomnia is normal, but still can be very annoying to deal with. I started with a 3mg dosage nightly and quickly moved up to 5mg as 3mg was just not enough for me. I have been taking 5mg of melatonin every single night for the last 15 years or so and I sleep great no matter what I do.

I have heard of some people taking higher dosages of melatonin up around the 20mg dosage level, but I would never suggest going this high without your doctors consent. Melatonin can have some side effects that include:

  • Lowering your body temperature.
  • Sleepiness.
  • Giving you vivid dreams.
  • Morning grogginess.
  • Small blood pressure changes.

If you get any of these side effects, they will go away when you stop taking the melatonin supplement. I myself have had zero side effects from taking melatonin and will continue to use this excellent sleep aid supplement. There is also some evidence that melatonin may make the immune system stronger, slow the aging process and possible even slow the spreads of cancer, which certainly is good news.

Protein Powders Can Cause Constipation

You exercise hard to either build muscle and or lose weight, then you want a high fast absorbing protein source to re-build muscle fast as protein powder. Protein powder is very convenient and fast absorbing depending on which type you choose to use. Just try to get a huge daily intake of good quality protein by eating food alone, it can be very hard to do on a daily basis.

Protein powder is usually an essential supplement for bodybuilders as it saves time, money and helps build muscle faster. There is however, a possible side effect of taking protein powders as it may cause some people to have constipation issues. This has been seen using even as little a one scoop a day, or around 26-30 grams of protein powder. I know this happens as it happened to myself and many others I have talked to over the years. The constipation degree can be from very mild to extreme and if not corrected can lead to health problems.

After dealing with this issue for years, I was able to figure out how to prevent it most of the time and how to rid the constipation issue if could not prevent it.   • Never drink your protein drink shortly after eating high fiber foods, as may attach onto the fiber and harden. Can eat high fiber shortly after protein drinks if you wish.
  • Drink your protein drink slowly, do not drink it all at once fast if over 40 grams of protein.

Now if you follow this guide line you will most likely not get constipation, but if this does not work, you will have to possibly take some stool softeners for a while to clear it all up or do an Olive Oil and Orange Juice Flush! HMB Does This Supplement Really Work

Does HMB or HYDROXYMETHYLBUTYRATE really work, the answer is yes it does for most people. There are various reasons why HMB seems to not not work on some people. There are many articles about what HMB is and how it is supposed to work,  there are also many articles showing test studies on various groups of people trained and un-trained, to see if HMB shows an improvement or no improvement in muscle building. I myself have used HMB supplement off and on for over 11 years and I can tell you that it really does work and have tested this many times without any side effects at all.

I will tell you right off the bat, HMB is not a supplement that you can feel working, this is why so many people or bodybuilders claim it does nothing. Most people seem to think when you take a supplement, you should see results immediately, these are most likely the same people who eat fast food on a regular basis, as they are to impatient to cook. You must test it off and on to actually see and notice the difference. You also must train hard enough to actually get muscle damage or muscle break down, other wise HMB will not do much as far as muscle building or growth and repair are concerned.

I train with weight hard all the time and am a 100% natural bodybuilder and have been so since my very first workout routine. I train hard enough to feel the difference when I am on HMB and when I am not on HMB. One test I did that showed me it really works. I was 240 lbs and took all my regular daily supplements as usual and ate the same amount of carbs, fat, and protein etc as I normally do. The only thing different I added was the supplement HMB and took a dosage of 4-5 grams daily still working out hard as usual, but I decided to reduced my carbs a little to slowly drop a few pounds. Over the next couple of weeks, I went from 240 to 234 but yet my body measurements all remain the same as when I was 240 except my stomach or waste line, it went down a little. I have done this test before, except I did not take the HMB supplement and to my surprise all my body measurements went down. The other cool thing I noticed was when I dropped the body weight while on the HMB, my strength levels did not go down at all, when usually it would have. I have done this test over a few times and always with the same result.

One thing I noticed about HMB is, it seems that the older you are, supplementing with HMB seems to work better, as some younger weight trainers stated no results at all following exactly my testing of the product and I know they train very hard. So the way I see it, If you are a person 30 years old or over, HMB will most likely work great for you, but you must train hard or all you may only feel from supplementing the HMB is less sore muscles and no gains. Another thing I noticed and a few others while on HMB was we had better breathing or more VO2 max, meaning we could workout harder and longer, but not breath as hard.
